Being needed by others is the strongest of all responsibilities. Having someone rely upon us at times may be daunting but fulfilling their need, being reliable and viewed as critical in a persons life is also the most rewarding undertaking.
Millions voluntarily become parents every year, while almost as many take responsibility for aging parents and family members.
Some folk become fosters or adoptive parents and thousands choose to mentor.
12 step programs have sponsors and schools of academics, sports, trades and hobbies all have teachers.
Being needed by others boosts our oxytocin as well as self esteem and confidence. Reaching out to others will actually keep us healthier and happier.
